PASSAGE:

GENEALOGY: The genealogy list is not in proportion. Just shows the genealogy through the Inter-biblical Period in a general way.

PANORAMIC VIEW:

Called the "Inter-biblical" period because of the lack of canonical revelation between Malachi and the New Testament books. Much of what we know about this time period comes from the Apocrypha and Josephus.

Outline of the Inter-biblical period Incomplete

The Greek

After the Jews returned to their homeland, they rebuilt the wall of Jerusalem and the temple.

After Alexander the Great's death in 331 BC, the conquered territory was divided among his four generals. In area of Palestine the mild rule of the Ptolemies gave way to the harsher rule of the Seleucids in 198 B.C., who implemented Hellenization.

The harsh rule of the Seleucids led to the sacrifice of a pig in the Jewish Temple in 167 B.C. which immediately led to the Maccabean Revolt. In 164 B.C. the Temple was cleansed - Hanukkah. By 160 B.C. the Jews had established independence which lasted almost 100 years. After a period of unity, the internal civil strife between weakened the independent nation and the Romans under Pompey conquered Jerusalem in 63 B.C. The Herod's were among the rulers the Romans place in Palestine.

This Roman rule lasted until 70 A.D. when Jerusalem was conquered and the people scattered, "the Diaspora."

This very brief over-view was not intended to "complete" your understanding of this time period. Only give a basic structure to which details can be attached.
